The Lancashire Heeler is a herding dog, the are origin from England, and was used by the local farmers for herding the livestock to the marked. They nipped the heels of the cattle without breaking the skin, that is where the name came Heeler. They are also excellent ratters and guard dogs. They are small lively dogs and a joy to be around, very loyal, healthy and long-lived, many reaching age of 15 years. In 2016 the Lancashire Heeles was recognized by the FCI, but is still on a recognized provisional basis and cannot be awarded with CACIB but can be awarded with CAC and Champion, Sieger and Winner titles.

The Lancashire Heeler is generally a very healthy, long lived breed, – many living to the age of 15+ years. But there are some conditions with can affect them such as diseases of the eye, Primary Lens Luxation (PLL), Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA)Hereditary Cataracts and dislocation of the kneecap (Patella Luxatio). To tackle these it is importend to use DNA tests, Screening schemes. and awoid use affected dogs.
